Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences
Tomorrow, Tuesday November 12th, marks the beginning of Fall conferences. Conference week officially begins Friday, November 15th and continues the following week, November 18th-November 22nd. Chapter 2 Science Test
The first science test of the school year will be Friday, September 27th. The test will cover Chapter 2 which is all about plant systems. Students will be allowed to use their notebooks on the test but please ensure that your child also studies so that they are able to understand the questions on the test.

Back to School Night
9/19/2013 Thursday: Back to School Night and Book Fair 6pm-8pm. Classrooms will be open from 6:30pm-7:30pm.
Back to School Night is a wonderful opportunity to learn about 5th grade in Room 502. Also, it is a time to see a sample of the assignments completed by your child during the first few weeks of school. If your child went to Science Camp, this is your opportunity to pick up their Walden West souvenirs and/or their 4 C award. Also, you will be able to sign-up early for Winter Conferences.
I look forward to seeing you Thursday.

Science Camp Return
If you are one of the parents who are transporting luggage back to school, please arrive here at Walden West by 11am.
The bus will return to school, Friday between 12:15pm and 12:30pm. Please be there to sign your child out and take them home. I know you have missed them and they have a lot of fun stories to tell you upon their arrival.

Almost Time to Come Back
Hello Former 4th Graders!!!!
Monday you will start a new year at Northwood with either myself or Mrs. Kramer. I hope that you are excited and ready to go. Remember that you have a homework assignment that was given to you the last week of school that is due Monday. Hopefully, you remember what it was, if not look in your homework planner. If you still have your homework planner bring it with you to school Monday as well.
Also, our trip to Walden West is scheduled for September 9th. The cost for science camp is $280 per student. You can bring a check made out to Northwood the first day of school. Bring all payments to my classroom. I cannot wait to see you all on Monday. I hope you are rested but ready to get to work.

5th Grade Promotion and the last day of school
5th Grade Promotion begins promptly at 9:00 am. Please arrive early to school because the multipurpose fills up fast. 5th grade students should arrive at school in their nice outfit at 8:15 am. Right after the promotion, you are allowed to sign your child out in our classroom and go home or take a trip to Bounce A Rama.
4th graders come to school in common dress but if you would like to check your child out early you may starting at 10:30 am in the classroom.

States and Capitals, Science Fair, Historical Fiction Writing Assignment, and State/Mammal Report
May is going to be an extremely busy month for your child. Here are a few important due dates.
States and Capitals
4th graders are only going to be learning the location and spelling of the 50 states. 5th graders are responsible for all 50 capitals and states. Each Friday of this month, your child will take a test on the states and/capitals until the big 50 states test at the end of the month.
Science Fair
Science Fair Projects are due Monday, May 13th.
Historical Fiction Writing Assignment
Students will receive the assignment Friday of this week.

You will be receiving progress reports Friday, April 26th. Please sign and return those progress reports as soon as possible.
California State Testing
State Testing begins next week. Please ensure that your child arrives on time everyday because we will be testing first thing in the morning. It is also important that your child eats a nutritious breakfast every morning to increase their focus on the test.

Dr. Seuss Day and Winter Conferences
Thursday, March 7th is Dr. Seuss Day. We need one parent volunteer to assist the class from 8:30 am to 10:00 am. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are available to help.

Field Trip Monday
Yes, we have enough chaperones!!!
Please make sure your child arrives at school by 7:55 am. We are leaving school at 8:00 am. Your child needs to wear comfortable walking shoes and pack a bag lunch. We should return to school between 3:15 pm - 3:30 pm. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Field Trip
Attention Parents:
We have a field trip scheduled for Monday, March 4th to the Tech Museum. However, we only have two chaperones for the trip. In order for us to be able to take the fieldtrip, we need at least three more chaperones. If we are unable to find at least three more people to chaperone, we will not be able to take the fieldtrip. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Also, Math Test tomorrow - 4th grade Topic 10 (adding/subtracting fractions) and 5th grade Topic 11 (adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers)

Reminder: We have a field trip Friday, February 15th to the SAP Open Kids Day. Please make sure your child wears comfortable shoes, wears a jacket, and packs their lunch in a ziploc or paper bag.
Children must arrive at school by 7:00am in order to depart from school at 7:05 am. We will be back at school by 2:35pm.
Congrats to Cody Lejang for winning the essay contest; he will be participating in drills and other activities on the court during the event.
